Our historic sites represent the technologies, designs and ideas that are the framework of our society and the basis for our future.
Many sites are landmarks within a community, are associated with remarkable people or historical events, or are places that have cultural, social, scientific or architectural significance.
The Historic Sites Unit provides for the research, preservation, management, development and interpretation of Yukon's historic sites and routes. It takes part in the implementation of the Historic Resources Act and meeting of Yukon government heritage obligations under the Council of Yukon First Nations' Umbrella Final Agreement and individual, First Nation final agreements.
These documents legally protect our historic sites for the benefit of everyone. It is unlawful to damage or destroy historic sites or to remove artifacts from them.
